This house in Amersham, Buckinghamshire was designed as our first low energy Passivhaus EnerPHit project, with the refurbishment of the existing building designed to meet Passivhaus retrofit standards. The project involves the complete refurbishment of a dated 1950’s house with earlier extensions.
The sustainability strategy includes a fabric first approach, using external insulation and render to the existing walls, a new insulated floor slab and a loft conversion including thermal upgrade. The project involves sustainable technologies in the form of an air source heat pump, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and PV solar panels. The combined effect will be a low energy house that has been decarbonised from its gas supply and will result in minimal electricity and heating bills. With the house becoming so well insulated we have had to consider Summer overheating through the use of windows and timber shutters.
